WHAT IS CASP?

“We are moving into an era when it will be imperative to find out what your blood vessels are like before clinical disease sets in so that, if necessary, appropriate measures can be taken to keep your cardiovascular system as healthy as possible”

~ Dr Lakatta.

Central Aortic Systolic Pressure (CASP) is the pressure at the root of the aorta, the largest artery of the body as it emerges from the heart. So why is this so important? Because studies on CASP have shown that central pressure is more strongly related to vascular hypertrophy, extent of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular event. In simple terms, it gives a better indication of your health.

As the heart is the engine which drives the blood through our arteries, veins, arterioles then it is logical to think that the pressure close to the engine is a better reflection of the condition of the engine as opposed to testing at a point at the periphery. Most modern doctors base their treatment for hypertension on measurement of the brachial artery, i.e. main blood vessel of the upper arm.

The CASP provides further information so that a physician can fully assess the health of the patient. It is important to understand that an increase in CASP correlates with the risk of cardiovascular events more than brachial blood pressure.

We offer you the A-PULSE CASPro ANALYSIS TEST which gives you the information you need to make a more informed decision.
